4. Did you know that the popular quiz show Who wants to be a Millionaire? started on British Tv? Each week, the presenter asks questions on general knowledge, and the contestant has to answer them to try to win a milion pounds. There is an audience in the TV studio, and the programme gets millions of viewers at home too. Detective series are also very popularin Britain, and so are soap operas. A soap opera tells a story about ordinary people, and there is usually something dramatic in each episode. Sitcoms like Friends also tell a story, but are much funnier than soaps. They usually ger very high viewing figures, sometimes 10 million people or more. The stars often become celebritis.
